PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress short circuits due to the deposition of PM (particulate matter) in an exhaust emission control device for purifying exhaust gas by the operation of a high voltage.
SOLUTION: An insulator 32 covering a plug electrode 31 is provided with a recessed part 32a for surrounding the boundary part of the insulator 32 and an exposed part 31b. A current from the surface of the exposed part 31b is discharged (atmospherically discharged) toward another point on a port edge part 32b or the recessed part 32a without passing through the boundary part 31a. Thus, calories sufficient for incinerating or oxidizing the PM stuck to the surface of the recessed part 32a are generated, the PM is removed and the short circuits due to the deposition of the PM to the surface of the insulator 32 are suppressed.
COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
|
