<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transflective liquid crystal display device which can generate stable bent alignment, has a fast response speed, and can effectively use transmitted light and reflected light, and are superior in display characteristic, and a manufacturing method thereof. <P>SOLUTION: The transflective liquid crystal display device is constituted by enclosing liquid crystal with negative dielectric constant anisotropy between a TFT substrate 21 and a counter substrate 22 and has a transmission region controlling the transmitted light and a reflection region controlling the reflected light. A reflection electrode 25 and a transparent electrode 24 of the TFT substrate 21 are covered with a 1st vertical alignment layer 26 and a common electrode 28 on the side of the counter substrate 22 is covered with a 2nd vertical alignment layer 29. The whole 2nd vertical alignment layer 29 and only the 1st vertical alignment layer 26 in the transmission region are optically improved; and pre-tilt angles of liquid crystal molecules on the interface between the 1st vertical alignment layer 26 and 2nd vertical alignment layer 29 are ≥45° and liquid crystal molecules in the transmission region are aligned in a bend state. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
