<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a purification catalyst enabling a further improvement of the purifying performance. <P>SOLUTION: A catalyst layer comprising a complex oxide containing Ce and Zr and having such a structure that atoms of a catalyst noble metal are arranged at or between crystal lattice points is formed in the cell wall of a honeycomb carrier arranged in the exhaust passage of an engine. The complex oxide comprises the first double oxide containing at least 65 mass%, based on the total mass of CeO<SB>2</SB>and ZrO<SB>2</SB>, of CeO<SB>2</SB>and the second double oxide containing at least 65 mass%, based on the total mass of CeO<SB>2</SB>and ZrO<SB>2</SB>, of ZrO<SB>2</SB>. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
