<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily remove sheets in jam release operation by specifying the sheets to be removed in the jam release operation from the detection results of a position of a sheet generating a jam on a carrying route and the positions of other sheets and displaying the specified sheets. <P>SOLUTION: A plurality of sensors 82A to 82J for detecting the carrying states of sheets are arranged on a plurality of detection positions in the sheet carrying route 1, and a CPU 71 detects the jam generation of a sheet in any one of the plurality of detection positions on the basis of the detection results of the sensors 82A to 82J.
