A machine for reconditioning pneumatic tyres 6 comprises a pair of felly plates 4, means for inflating a tyre to be reconditioned, and one or more distance pieces 10 mounted on a holder 8 which is movable so that the distance between the plates can be set by engagement of a distance piece with a plate. The plates 4 comprise a rotatable felly which is mounted on axles 7 n the frame of a grinding machine and is rotatable by a motor 5. A conduit (not shown) supplies air to inflate the tyre and to operate systems 9 for lifting holders 8, 8a. The holder 8 has a plurality of pairs of distance pieces 10 of different lengths for selective engagement with a plate to determine the distance between the plates. The holder 8a carries a rotatable disc 8b having distance pieces mounted on its periphery for selective engagement with the other plate, the disc being formed with recesses between the distance pieces so as to engage the axle 7 and symmetrically locate the pieces in relation to the axle. When air is admitted to the tyre, the systems 9 lift the holders so that the distance pieces engage the plates, and when air is released from the tyre, the holders drop under their own weight.</p> |
