A novel acrylic fiber having enhanced hydroscopic and antistatic properties is obtained from a copolymer (A) comprising, as unit components, at least 10 percent by weight of acrylonitrile, 0.2 to 20 percent by weight of N-3-oxo-hydrocarbon-substituted acrylamide and balancing quantity of the third hydrophilic monomer.
