The amount of air is regulated by a needle valve 90. Although the device 40 is shown as being formed by two co-operating housings 44, 46, a single moulding may be used. In an aquarium 10, water 36 flows through, a siphon tube (not shown) to a filter receptacle 14, an apertured platform (not shown) at the bottom of the receptacle 14 and through an electrically driven centrifugal pump 24 and pipe 28 to the device 40. The receptacle 14 is hooked to a rim 18 of the aquarium tank by a flange 16.
