1402460 Thermo-illuminescent dosimeters ATOMIC ENERGY OF CANADA Ltd 29 Dec 1972 [7 Jan 1972] 60119/72 Heading G1A In an apparatus for measuring the dosage received by a thermo-illuminescent dosimeter wherein the dosimeter 16 is placed in thermal contact with a heated surface 19 (a hot anvil), hot enough to empty all the dosimeters electron traps within a fixed period, a temperature sensing device (thermocouple) 24 is placed on a surface of the dosimeter 16 not in contact with the heated surface 19 and in between the dosimeter's surface and a light pipe 23 leading to a light sensing means (a photo-multiplier). By integrating the photomultiplier's output a measurement of the amount of radiation dose received by the dosimeter can be obtained. The thermocouple monitors the temperature of the dosimeter and when it reaches a predetermined level the hot anvil is withdrawn Fig. 3 (not shown). The automatic processing of a number of thermo-illuminescent dosimeters in series is described.
