<p>At least two different phosphors are used and at least one of these is coated with a shielding to absorb part of the electron beam energy. Instead of sequential deposition of phosphors and of screening layers by vacuum or gas phase methods, the coating is appled to the particles of phosphor concerned individually and overall esp., before deposition on the screen. The absorbent layer is a cpd. of a group IIB/IIIA element with Se or S, formed from a mixed soln. of a salt of one of those cpds. with an organic Se or S cpd. esp., thio-ureate or the like.
