N,N'-bis-(2,3',4'-dihydroxyphenyl-2-hydroxyethyl) hexamethylene diamine prepn. 4 molesx of the racemic, L or D form of a phenylethanolamine of formula: (where R is a group which may be split by hydrogenation e.g. benzyl- or benzhydryl-, and R1 is hydrogen or R), is reacted in the molten state in the presence of a solvent, with 1 mole of 1,6-dihalohexane e.g. 1.6-dibromohexane, and the product hydrogenated. The hexamethylene diamine is useful pharmaceutically in bronchial complaints.
