1352728 Pseudomonas methanolica G TERUI 2 Nov 1971 [11 Dec 1970] 50952/71 Heading C6F [Also in Division B1] Microbial cells of good protein quality are obtained by aerobically culturing Pseudomonas methanolica ATCC 21704 in a culture medium containing methanol and recovering the cells therefrom e.g., by centrifugation. The cultivation may be carried out in a single tank fermenter, batchwise or continuously, while maintaining the methanol concentration at less than 0.2% (V/V). A preferred feature is batch or continuous cultivation in two inoculated fermenters 1 and 2, Fig.2, of which the latter has about 1/5th the capacity of the main tank. A 1-2% (V/V) concentration of methanol is maintained in the first fermenter. Volatilised methanol passes through the linking pipe 7 into the second fermenter 2. Reference 6 indicates baffles.
