1319971 Cleaning gas filters JOY MFG CO 27 May 1970 [17 June 1969] 25555/70 Heading BIT Air filtration apparatus with reverse flow cleaning comprises a housing 10 divided into a dirty gas compartment 18 and a clean gas compartment 20 separated by a number of filter elements 22 of hose or bag form The cleaning is carried out by a cleaner 30 positioned above each bag mouth and designed such that on the commencement of flow of pressurised air through the cleaners the mouth portions thereof descend from above the filter mouths to a position sealed against the filter mouths. The cleaners each comprise a pipe 37 afixed to the compressed air feed pipe 52 and a cylindrical jacket 32 which may slide on pipe 37 and which has an air tight seal 38 at its top end and a nozzle 50 of small bore at its lower end. The jacket 32 is normally upwardly biased by spring 48 (Fig. 4) but upon commencement of air flow the pressure inside the jacket causes it to slide down (Fig. 5). A mouth portion 34 is afixed to the jacket for sealing with the mouth of the corresponding filter bag. Dust dislodged from the bags falls into hopper 15 and is removed by conveyor 14. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 6, not shown) the casing 10 is cylindrical, the filter elements being in a circle and there is only one cleaner which is rotatably mounted so that it may be directed to the mouth of each filter element in turn.
