1433144 Transparent polyamides HOECHST AG 25 May 1973 [27 May 1972] 25130/73 Heading C3A Transparent polyamides have the formula wherein 10 to 95%, randomly distributed, of the R 1 groups represent cyclohexane-bis-methylenyl, 0 to 50% thereof being the 1,4- and 50 to 100% the 1,3-isomer, and the remaining 5 to 90% represent C 4-20 straight chain divalent aliphatic hydrocarbon radicals; 10 to 90% of the R 2 groups represent C 5-18 divalent aromatic hydrocarbon radicals and the remaining 10 to 90% C 3-18 divalent saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon radicals; R 3 represents H, R 4 represents -OH, -NH-R 1 -NH 2 , or -NH-R 1 -NH-OC-CH 3 ; and x represents the degree of polymerization corresponding to a reduced specific viscosity of 1-0 to 2À5 dl./g. (on 1 g. in 100 ml. 60/40 w./w. phenol/tetrachloroethane at 25‹ C.). They may be prepared by reacting the appropriate diamines and acids (or equivalent derivatives), optionally with acetic acid as chain terminator, e.g. in a stirred autoclave. The higher molecular weights may be obtained by further condensation in a doublescrew extruder under reduced pressure. In specific example the reactants are trans-1,3- and - 1,4 - bis - (aminomethyl) - cyclohexane and various of tere- and iso-phthalic and adipic acids, 1,10-decane- and 4,4<SP>1</SP>-diphenylsulphone dicarboxylic acids and hexa- and dodecamethylene diamines. Reference is made to Specifications 1,112,395 and 922,677. Reference is made by the Comptroller to Specification 1,383758. |
