<p>1411121 Mattresses METZELER AG 27 Sept 1972 [28 Sept 1971] 44689/72 Heading A4M [Also in Divisions B5 and D1] A hollow article e.g. a mattress which is adapted to be liquid-and/or gas-filled comprises at least one upper web 1, at least one lower web 2 and a woven double fabric, each said web being made of one or more woven fabrics other than double woven fabric coated with a flexible gas-and liquid-tight coating, said double fabric having two spaced apart plies 6,7 inter-connected by spacer threads 8, the said plies being connected respectively to said upper web and said lower web, so that the spacer threads determine the height of the article when filled, the upper and lower webs being held in opposition to the filling pressure by said spacer threads. Binding of the webs to the fabric may be effected by an adhesive, welding or vulcanization e.g. by a self vulcanizing adhesive or by adhesive containing a vulcanizing agent. The plies of the double fabric which may be made from natural fibres, rayon, polyester, polyethylene, polypropylene, polyamide, polyvinyl alcohol, glass or metal fibres or mixtures thereof. A preferred double fabric has warp, weft and pole threads which differ from each other in their materials and thickness. A further preferred double fabric is made by intercrossing the spacer threads with warp and/or weft threads of the upper and lower plies thereof; alternatively, the double fabric may comprise common warp threads woven into the upper and lower weft threads and forming the spacer threads. The plies of the double fabric may be connected to the coatings of the upper and lower webs by adhesion, welding or vulcanization, alternatively, stitching may be used. The coating material may be rubber, synthetic rubber e.g. polyisoprene, polybutadiene, an acrylonitritebutadiene copolymer; a styrene-butadiene copolymer, chlorosulphonated polyethylene, polyethylene, polychloroprene or an ethylenepropylene terpolymer. Alternatively, a plastics material e.g. plasticized polyvinyl chloride or an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer may be used. The peripheral edges of the article may be sealed by an edge insert; alternatively, seaming of the edges may be effected.</p> |
