A method of producing a multi-layer flat film which is self-supporting and/or adhering to a substrate by co-extruding at least two thermo-extrudable materials in the form of flat streams or non-solidified sheets in spaced parallel relatively closely adjacent overlapping positions so that their respective side edges are offset or staggered from each other, bonding adjacent face surfaces of such nonsolidified sheets with one another and/or to a substrate and cooling the bonded sheets to form the desired multi-layer composite film. In a preferred embodiment, a wide temperature differential between the co-extruded streams is attained and ranges from about 0 DEG to 200 DEG F. for improved bonding characteristics.
