<p>Manufacture of single-side covered corrugated cardboard on a single side corrugating machine, in which a strip of starting material is corrugated by the corrugations of two rotating grooved rolls in opposite engagement and a covering strip is adhesively bonded to the crests of the corrugations while the periphery of one grooved roll is situated opposite the periphery of a pressure roll in such a way that a gap exists between the two rolls, incorporating the improvement whereby in order to reduce sound production a rotatable pressure roll is used, the longitudinal axis of which is inclined to that of the grooved roll, so that the distance between the axes of the rolls during normal operation is uniform. More especially the pressure roll has a somewhat concave outer peripheral surface. The very high noise level produced in the known equipment as a result of the rapid repetition of the impact of the lower grooved roll and the pressure roll resulting from the periodic change in the distance between the mid-points of these rolls is considerably reduced.</p> |
