<p>1357483 Abrasive tools R ZANE 14 July 1972 [27 July 1971] 32972/72 Heading B3D A discoidal abrasive member comprises a body 1 of synthetic material, at least some parts of which have variable thicknesses so as to constitute means for standing stresses which are applied and for determining the flexibility of the body, means 2 integral with the body for mounting and centring the body on the spindle, and abrasive grains 6 applied to the face of the body by an adhesive material compatible with the synthetic material of the body. The body may be of polyamidic, acrylic or acrylonitric resin incorporating fibreglass, glass cloth or similar material, and the adhesive an over-cured phenolic resin which, when the material of the body softens in a furnace, becomes welded to the body. The flexibility of the body is determined by variable thickness of the body or by ribs 3. A recessed portion at the centre of the body receives the metal flange for fastening the hub 2 of the body on the grinding machine spindle. Holes 5 may be provided in the body. In another embodiment, the abrasive extends to the centre of the body and the hub has a blind threaded hole for mounting on the spindle.</p> |
