摘要 <p>1357344 Aromatic carbonates and phosphoro- Chloridates IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 15 July 1971 [15 July 1970 (2)] 6 Aug 1970 23 Dec 1970] 34308/70 34309/70 37949/70 and 61171/70 Headings C2C and C2P [Also in Division C3] The invention comprises (a) phenol precursors of the formula wherein Q is a bivalent aromatic radical, Q<SP>1</SP> is a univalent aromatic radical or the moiety of a bivalent aromatic radical, Z is -SO 2 , -SO-, -CO- or CH 2 , Y is -CO- or -POCl 2 and m is 1 when Y is -POCl 2 and 2 when Y is -CO-, but not including phenol precursors in which either (i) Q is a naphthylene radical and Q<SP>1</SP> is the-moiety of a naphthylene radical, or (ii) Q is a phenylene radical and Q<SP>1</SP> is the moiety of a phenylene radical; and (b) a process for the preparation of phenol precursors of Formula I including those in which (i) Q is a naphthylene radical and Q<SP>1</SP> is the moiety of a naphthylene radical, or (ii) Q is a phenylene radical and Q<SP>1</SP> is the moiety of a phenylene radical, by reacting together under Friedel-Crafts conditions a first compound having the formula with a second compound having the formula in which n is 1 or 2 and one of A and B is H and the other is a group of the formula -ZX in which X is Cl or Br, the approximate molar ratio of the first compound (A-Q-O) m Y to the second compound (Q<SP>1</SP>B) n being 1 : 1 or 2 : 2 when m and n are both 1 or both 2 respectively, being 1 : 2 when m is 2 and n is 1, and being 2 : 1 when m is 1 and n is 2. Examples are given for the preparation of the compounds. Substituted phenols may be obtained by cleavage of the compounds of Formula I with a base. Examples illustrate this process. They are useful in the production of homopolymers and copolymers.</p>
