1424240 Hydraulic mining SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ BV 26 Feb 1973 9301/73 Heading E1F A method of hydraulically mining mineral from an underground seam comprises digging at least two trenches 4, 5 in the surface of the earth to a depth at which the trenches at least reach into the seam, making at least one dipping passage extending between the passages and passing for at least the major part of its length through the seam, disintegrating mineral in the side walls of the passage by hydraulic action, transporting a slurry of the mineral and water through the passage towards one end thereof into one of the trenches, and lifting this slurry out of the trench to the surface of the earth. Preferably the mineral is disintegrated from the side walls of a passage by moving a jetting head up through the passage, which is preferably formed by drilling the seam. The passage is inclined in a dipping seam at the same angle as the dip angle of the seam. |
