<p>1398134 Boots &c BRITISH BATA SHOE CO Ltd 28 Sept 1972 [29 Sept 1971] 44839/72 Heading A3B [Also in Division B5] A method of forming a shoe sole from two thermoplastic materials of different colours comprises moulding an outer sole portion 26 and then moulding an inner sole portion 30 at a different location to interconnect the outer sole portion 26 and the lasted upper 32. The outer sole portion 26 is moulded in a cavity defined by a piston 23, sides 21 and a top mould (24), Fig. 4 (not shown). Top mould (24) is then replaced by a lasted upper 32 which is spaced from the outer sole portion 26 to form a mould cavity 28 for the inner sole portion 30. One form of suitable apparatus is shown in Fig. 7. A pair of mould pistons 35, 36 are mounted in a cylinder 38 which is pivotable about a horizontal shaft 40. In the first moulding step the piston 35 cooperates with a lower mould 41 to form the outer sole portion 26. Cylinder 38 is then rotated so that piston 35, carrying the outer sole portion 26, can cooperate with an upper mould, defined by a lasted upper 37; sides 46 and outer sole portion 26, so that the inner sole portion 30 may be formed. While the second step is being carried out, a further outer sole portion is moulded on the now lower piston 36. In another form, Fig. 9 (not shown) the apparatus comprises a piston (51) slidable in a cylinder (53). In the first step, piston (51) is lowered and the outer sole portion 26 is moulded in the cavity defined by sides (52). Sides (52) are then moved apart to allow piston (51) to be raised to cooperate with a lasted upper and new side moulds to form the inner sole portion. In a modification, Fig. 11, conventional side moulds 57 are used. In the first step, a dummy last 60 is used. In the second step, piston 51 is raised and dummy last 60 is replaced by a lasted upper.</p> |
