1397998 Cobalt molybdate catalyst HOECHST AG 23 Aug 1973 [5 Sept 1972] 39941/73 Heading C1A A cobalt molybdate catalyst is prepared by precipitation from combined solutions of a Co salt, an Mo compound and ammonia at an atomic ratio Co : Mo or 1À05 : 1 a temperature of 60‹ C. and pH 3À8-6À0, the precipitate being filtered, washed and dried at 110-170‹ C., at 250-550‹ C., ground, shaped and sintered at 500-700‹ C. for such time as to produce a catalyst having a BET surface area of 4-8 m.<SP>2</SP>/g. and pore volume of 0À1-0À2 ml./g. The process may be carried out by mixing Co(NO 3 ) 2 solution with an ammonia solution of so that the pH is 4À0-4À4. The calcined material may be mixed with 2-5% graphite and pelleted before sintering. The product may be used as a catalyst for gaseous oxidation reactions, e.g. acrolein to acrylic acid. |
