摘要 <p>1410803 Purifying hydrogen chloride containing effluent LUMMUS CO 16 Nov 1972 [16 Nov 1971] 52929/72 Heading C1A The effluent from an oxychlorination reactor is purified, and made suitable as feed for such reactor by separating the hydrogen chloride content of the effluent as an aqueous solution of hydrogen chloride, e.g. by cooling, and then submitting this solution to an azeotropic distillation in an apparatus comprising two columns 30 and 54, first column 30 being operated at pressure and temperature to produce essentially water-free hydrogen chloride overhead and the second column 54 being operated at pressure and temperature to produce HClfree water overhead, the pressure in column 30 being higher than that in 54, the aqueous solution of HCl produced by quenching the effluent from oxychlorination reactor 11 in tower 19 being introduced into one of said first and second columns, e.g. column 30, the bottoms from the first column being introduced into the second and bottoms from the second being introduced into the first, a molecular oxygen containing gas, e.g. air, being introduced into the first column 30 via compressor 34, 35 and line 37 so that a mixture of oxygen containing gas and water-free hydrogen chloride is withdrawn overhead via line 14 and passed back to the oxychlorination reactor 11. If the aqueous solution of HCl has a concentration less than the bottoms of the first column it is introduced into the second column, however if the concentration is greater than the bottoms of the first column it is introduced into the first column. The temperature of the oxygen containing gas introduced into the first column may be 250‹ to 350‹ F. and its pressure 5 atm. to 8 atm. The first column may be operated at a column pressure of 4 atm. to 7 atm., an overhead temperature of 110‹ to 170‹ F., and a bottoms temperature of 295‹ to 340‹ F., and the second column may be operated at a pressure of 1À1 to 1À7 atm., an overhead temperature of from 150‹ to 170‹ F. and a bottoms temperature of from 230‹ to 255‹ F. The residual effluent gas from which the aqueous HCl is first separated may be used as the stripping gas. Reactions to which the present process may be applied include:-(1) the reaction of molecular oxygen, hydrogen chloride, and a salt mixture of the higher and lower valent forms of a multivalent metal chloride to enrich the high valent metal chloride content of the mix; (2) the production of chlorinated hydrocarbons using molecular oxygen and HCl; (3) the production of chlorine using HCl and oxygen; (4) the production of the higher valent chloride of a multivalent metal using an oxychloride of the metal and HCl; (5) the production of chlorinated hydrocarbons using the oxychloride of a multivalent metal, HCl, and a hydrocarbon.</p>
