<p>Machine for drawing poultry, hung by the ankles on a continuous transporter. An opening between the breastbone and the tail has been made previously. A tool enters the bird through the opening. The tool is a unit moving back and forwards in a straight line. It has a pivoted extension which has a tapered split for gripping the gullet. The extension is in line with the unit during the inward stroke and at the end of the stroke it swings in the direction of the wind-pipe. The split grips the gullet and the ends of the extension a pressed against the ribs. As the unit is withdrawn the pressure against the ribs is maintained. An external support is placed behind the bird. As the unit withdraws the extension brings the intestines and lungs with it. The ends of the extension are two balls one on each side of the split. The removal of the lungs is ensured. The absence of sharp projections and the position of the extension during the inward stroke reduce damage to the rest of the bird, esp. the liver. Changes in the size of the birds are not important and do not affect the operation.</p> |
