1424222 Reciprocating conveyers N STEULER 14 March 1973 12297/73 Heading B8A [Also in Division F4] A conveyer, particularly for carrying tiles F through a kiln, comprises adjacent groups I, II, III Fig. 5, of parallel beams, moving alternately so that the tiles are continuously transported by alternate groups. Each beam comprises longitudinal spars 1, Fig. 1, with crossstruts 1b, 1c, and cutaway end pieces 1a. The end pieces 1a, 2a of adjacent beams of a group overlap, and support members 3 comprising flat plates with cut away ends 3a, 3c Fig. 2, are mounted with their upper tongues 3a between the end struts 1c, 1b, 2b, 2c of adjacent beams, and their lower ends between cross struts of foundation beams 4. The upper and lower shoulders of the support members 3b, 3d are curved about horizontally displaced centres, so that even when the supports are vertical, they have a tendency to swing back to an inclined position when they are supported by the chamfered edges of the cross-struts. The inner group of beams I, Fig. 5 and the outer groups of beams II, III are driven by a crank drive engaging end beams (Fig. 4) so that the inner set I move forwards and downwards while the outer sets II, III move forwardly and upwards. The drives are so arranged and the beams supported at such a level that, when the tiles are transferred from one set of beams to another, the beams have an equal forward component of velocity. The beams, support members and foundation beams, which may be replaced by beams identical with the carrier beams, are all formed of ceramic material. |
