1424803 Polynitriles UNILEVER-EMERY NV 26 Jan 1973 [28 Jan 1972] 4179/72 Heading C2C [Also in Division C3] Higher polynitriles containing 20 to 75 carbon atoms, 2 to 4 nitrile groups and not more than 2 C to C double bonds in the molecule are prepared by dehydrating the ammonium salts of the corresponding acids. The acids may be derived from C 16-22 saturated or unsaturated monocarboxylic acids by polymerizing and/or coupling with styrene and optionally hydrogenating. In examples di- and tri-nitriles are prepared by dehydrating ammonium salts of commercially available dimerized and trimerized fatty acids. The polynitriles may be added to polyolefins and polyesters to improve dyeing capacity. |
