<p>1404177 Low density alumina CONTINENTAL OIL CO 20 Oct 1972 [20 Oct 1971 20 April 1972] 48516/72 Heading C1A Alumina having a loose bulk density (LBD) of 7À5-25 lb./ft.<SP>3</SP>, a pore volume of 1À0-2À75 cc./g. and a surface area of 275-400 m.<SP>2</SP>/g. is made by admixing an aqueous slurry of alumina with an organic solvent capable of forming an azeotropic mixture with water and drying to remove the water with the organic solvent and recovering the alumina so produced. The alumina slurry may contain up to 32% by wt. alumina and may be produced from the hydrolysis of an aluminium alkoxide. The organic solvent is preferably an aliphatic alcohol containing from 2 to 4 carbon atoms, preferably ethanol or n-butanol.</p> |
