<p>1300276 Automobile windshield LIBBEYOWENS FORD CO 6 April 1970 [10 April 1969] 16180/70 Heading B7J [Also in Divisions H4 and H5] A laminated windshield 12 for an automobile 11 comprises a sheet of glass 15 having an opening 17 in a face thereof which forms a notch in the lower edge, a second sheet of glass 14 arranged in face-to-face relationship therewith, an interposed layer 16 of plastics material and a radio antenna 13. The antenna 13 is bonded to the sheet 15 and comprises substantially horizontal wire elements 18, 19, 22 and substantially vertical wire elements 20, 21, 23. The elements 20, 21 are secured by welds 25 to a substantially crescent-shaped metal connecting plate 24 which is located in alignment with the opening 17. The wire elements 21 and 20 are located midway between the driver and the front seat passenger, while the elements 18, 19 and 22 are located at the top of the windshield 12. A pigtail wire 26 is soldered to the plate 24 to form a connection 27 and then the opening 17 is filled with a heat and moistureresistant plastics sealing compound. A copper or copper-cadmium wire 28 for the antenna may be covered with a black plastics coating 29 and then with an outer transparent plastics coating 30. Alternatively, a wire 31 has a copper core 32 plated with silver at 33 and covered with darkened and transparent plastics coating 34 and 35 respectively. The outer transparent coatings 30 and 35 may have substantially the same refractive index as the plastics interlayer 16. The antenna may be composed of two back-to-back inverted L- shaped elements.</p> |
