1383357 Curing epoxy resins CIBA-GEIGY AG 30 Oct 1972 [10 Nov 1971] 47135/72 Heading C3B A heat curable mixture comprises: (I) a polyepoxide, (II) a dicarboxylic acid of formula (R1 is an aromatic or cycloaliphatic radical and R2 is an aliphatic or cycloaliphatic radical) and (III) a polycarboxylic acid anhydride. From 0À05 to 0À8 equivalents of II and from 0À20 to 0À95 mol of III are present per equivalent of I. The composition may additionally contain a quaternary ammonium compound, e.g. as catalyst. Suitable II may be prepared by reacting 2 moles of tetrahydrophthalic anhydride or hexahydrophthalic anhydride with 1 mol of neopentyl glycol or hexane-1,6-diol III may be methyltetrahydrophthalic anhydride. Examples relate to the curing diglycidyl ethers of bisphenol A and of hydrogenated bisphenol A, diglycidyl esters of tetra- and hexa-hydrophthalic acid and epoxy novolac resins. Uses.-Casting, impregnation and lamination.
