Connecting assembly for joining two plastic pipes - with conically tapered insert and connecting sleeve

In an apparatus for connecting one plastic pipe to another in which the plastic pipe, within which a conical support pipe section has been pushed, is inserted in a coupling sleeve and is retained by means of a clamp ring placed thereon and by a screwed joint for the pipes, a support pipe section is provided having an external conical taper of 1-3 degrees and more especially 1 1/2%. In the known equipment the insert pipe section has an external taper of 4-7 degrees, which particularly in the case of larger diameter pipes e.g. 90 mm is liable to cause cracking or bursting of the pipe. The modified insert avoids this.
