1497409 Treating metastatic cancers STRATEGIC MEDICAL RESEARCH CORP 13 Dec 1974 [14 Dec 1973] 17502/77 Divided out of 1497406 Heading A5B Metastatic cancers in warm blooded animals other than a human are therapeutically treated by administering thereto a therapeutically effective amount of at least one substance selected from an ethereal monosubstitution of a monosaccharide derivative having the general formula M-O-Y, and pharmaceutically acceptable organic acid and inorganic acid salts thereof, wherein M is the residue of a monosaccharide selected from pentoses, hexoses and heptoses which has been derivatized with (a) at least one C 1-18 aliphatic alcohol to produce an acetal group at the site of at least one available hydroxyl residue, (b) at least one C 1-18 aldehyde to produce at least one acetal group at the site of at least one available hydroxyl residue, (c) at least one C 1-18 ketone to produce at least one ketal group at the site of at least one available hydroxyl residue and (d) at least one C 1-18 organic acid residue to produce an ester group at the site of at least one available hydroxyl residue, and Y is selected from cyclic monovalent nitrogen containing organic radicals and residues and monovalent organic radicals and residues having the general formula: wherein R 1 is a divalent organic radical having a linear carbon chain length of 1-7 carbon atoms and R 2 and R 3 are selected from -H, -OH, -SH, halogen and monovalent organic radicals and residues having a linear carbon chain length of 1-7 carbon atoms. The ethereal monosubstitution of the monosaccharide derivative is preferably 3-o-3'- (N', N'-dimethylamino-n-propyl)-1, 2-o-isopropylidene-D-glucofuranose. The compounds may be administered orally, parenterally or rectally in the form of tablets, capsules, syrups, solutions or suppositories. |
