1525970 Toys H DARDA 22 Dec 1975 [24 Dec 1974 27 Dec 1974] 52384/75 Heading A6S [Also in Division F2] The spring drive mechanism of a toy vehicle includes a spiral drive spring 25, Fig. 6, which is wound up when the vehicle body is depressed and the vehicle moved forwards or rearwards. When the vehicle body is depressed, the spring drive mechanism pivots relative to the vehicle body about the axis of a post 10, Fig. 1, and an actuating projection (16), Fig. 2 (not shown), acts on a spring wire element 7 to cause a piston 3a carried by the spring wire element 7 to move into engagement with a pinion 5. When the pinion 3a is engaged with the pinion 5, forward or rearward movement of the vehicle causes contra-rotation of gear wheels 1a, 2a coupled to respective ends of the drive spring 25. The gear wheels 1a, 2a are engaged with pinions (one of which being the pinion 5) coupled to drive shaft 4, carrying vehicle wheels 6, by oppositely acting ratchet mechanisms. Fig. 3b shows the spring drive mechanism when the vehicle body is depressed and the vehicle is being moved to rotate the drive shaft 4 in a rotational direction 7b. The drive spring 25 has a radially outer end 25c, Fig. 7, engageable in grooves 1b of a spring housing. The radially inner end of the drive spring 25 is of reduced width and formed with a hook 25a engageable with a boss 2 integral with the gear wheel 2a. |
