1444022 I.C. engine exhaust gas catalyst TOKYO DENKI KAGAKU KOGYO KK 3 July 1973 [28 March 1973 29 March 1973] 09341/76 Divided out of 1444021 Heading B1E [Also in Division C1] A catalyst composition used for treatment of motor vehicle internal combustion engine exhaust gases comprises a mass of sintered granules comprising ferric oxide and at least one other oxide selected from copper, manganese and chromium oxides and having at least in part a spinel crystalline structure, the composition being prepared by sintering granules of a solid mixture comprising 5-90 mole % ferric oxide and 95-10 of the other oxide. The composition may contain oxides of other metals, e.g. Ca, Mg, K, Sb, Al, Zn, Ba, Sr, Co or Ni or of silicon. It may further contain 0.005-2.0% wt of metallic ruthenium or 0.1- 2.0% wt of metallic platinum. Catalyst compositions of the type comprising 20-75 mole % ferric oxide and 80-25 mole % of the oxide and prepared by sintering at 600-1050‹C for 0.5-10 hours from the subject of Specification 1444021. The exemplified compositions are as described in the above specification with an addition Example (Table 8 run 14) relating to a composition comprising ferric oxide, manganese dioxide, cupric oxide and titania.
