a power supply unit configured to supply power to the hard disk drive, the controller, and a load resistance; a power control unit configured to shift the information processing apparatus from a first power state, in which the power is supplied to the hard disk drive and the controller, to a second power state, in which the power is supplied to the hard disk drive while limiting supply of the power to the controller that controls the hard disk drive; and a switching unit configured to switch between stopping supplying the power to the load resistance in the first power state and supplying the power to the load resistance in the second power state.
