Extruded catalysts are made by (a) mixing a finely divided refractory mineral oxide, a peptising agent and sufficient water to give a mixt. with a wt. loss of 50-70% on ignition at 900 degrees C; (b) maintaining the mixt. under high shear mixing conditions equivalent to an energy input of 33-264 watt hours per kg refractory mineral oxide contained in the mixt., for a period of 0.5-5 minutes and (c) extruding the resulting paste and drying and calcining the extrudate. Prods. are esp. useful in conjunction with metal cpds. of g. VIB or VIII to give catalyst compsns. with improved activity in the hydrodesulphurisation of fuel oil residues.
|
