[Also in Division C1] Microcapsules consisting of a solid or liquid core enclosed by a wall of film-forming polymeric material are made by forming a system composed of a dispersion of the core entities in a solution of the wall material in a mixture of a relatively high boiling point "suspending liquid" and a relatively low boiling point "solvent liquid" and removing the latter by heating to or near to its boiling point so that, eventually, a polymer-rich phase separates and encapsulates the core entities. Specified wall material is: ethyl cellulose, nitro-cellulose, polyethylene, poly (ethylene-co-acrylic acid), vinylidene chloride polymers and co-polymers, chlorinated rubber and vinyl polymers and copolymers. Numerous case materials are mentioned, specific examples relating to the encapsulation of K 2 Cr 2 O 7 , NaCl and a silicone fluid. |
