1400622 Elastomer compositions TRW Inc 14 June 1972 [14 June 1971] 27903/72 Heading C3P Peroxide cured elastomer compositions comprise (a) 30 to 90 weight per cent of olefin polymer rubber, (b) 2 to 25 weight per cent liquidderived 1,2-polybutadiene resin, (c) 2 to 25 weight per cent of fluorine-containing polymer, (d) 2 to 50 weight per cent of filler and (e) 2 to 30 weight per cent of compatible impregnating oil, the impregnation having been effected during or after curing. The rubber may be an ethylene/propylene, ethylene/propylene/diene, isobutylene/isoprene, isoprene/ acrylonitrile, butadiene/acrylonitrile or butadiene/styrene copolymer rubber or a polyisoprene, polybutadiene or polyisobutylene rubber. The liquid polybutadiene preferably contains at least 80 per cent of units in 1,2-linkage. The fluorine-containing polymer may be polytetrafluoroethylene, polyhexafluoropropylene, polychlorotrifluoroethylene, polyvinyl fluoride, polyvinylidene fluoride, polyperfluorobutadiene or a copolymer of hexafluoropropylene with tetrafluoroethylene or vinylidene fluoride. The filler may be silica, lumina or carbon black. The oil may be paraffinic or naphthenic. The compositions may be extruded on to cables or conductors or compression moulded to form seals and rings for use in oxidative and corrosive environments. Examples describe the curing and impregnation with paraffinic oil of compositions comprising EPDM rubber, liquid 1,2-polybutadiene, polytetrafluoroethylene, carbon black, zinc oxide and optionally calcium silicate.
