Electrical drive with stator rotor and commutator - has rotor with permanent magnets in concentric circular array and stator with anti-phase windings

The rotor of the electrical drive system has a number of annular permanent magnets (29) arranged in a concentric circle around an axle common with the stator. The latter comprises an induction disc on which are mounted a number of trapezium shaped projections (4) of sintered iron oxide with a high magnetic permeability and high electrical resistance. A commutator system is included which switches power between two halves of the stator windings one half of these always being in anti-phase relative to the other half. The power supply is D.C. to operate as a motor, but output terminals are provided so that the system may work as a dynamo and supply A. C. output.
