<p>1408104 Epoxy resin emulsions HOECHST AG 19 July 1973 [25 July 1972] 34472/73 Heading C3B Aqueous emulsions of epoxy resins having a water content of 50-70% by wt. relative to the total weight of emulsion are obtained by emulsifying epoxy resins which are liquid at 20-80‹ C., in water, using as emulsifier 0À5-15% by wt. based on the wt. of epoxy resin of an emulsifier mixture consisting of: (a) 30-50% by wt. of abietic acid polyglycol ester, (b) 20-40% by wt. of polyglycol ethers of fatty alcohols and/or (b<SP>1</SP>) polyglycol ethers of p-alkylphenol, and (c) 10-30% by wt. of C 8-18 aliphatic alcohols; the sum of (a), (b), (b<SP>1</SP>) and (c) is 100%. (a) may be ethoxylated abietic acid obtained by reacting 25-30 mols. of ethylene oxide with 1 mol. of abietic acid. (b) may be prepared by reacting 4-30 mols. of ethylene oxide with 1 mol. of a C 8-20 aliphatic alcohol. (b<SP>1</SP>) may be obtained by reacting 4-30 mols. ethylene oxide with 1 mol. of alkylphenol, e.g. p-nonylphenol. Uses.-Coating compositions.</p> |
