<p>A cross-bar-addressed dot-matrix glow-discharge display tube is constructed so that each discharge path has a current-voltage characteristic the slope of which is unusually high for low-current densities at the cathode surfaces, this characteristic being similar to that obtained by connecting a resistor in series with a conventional discharge and thus enabling the discharges to exhibit "storage" properties. The increased slope of the characteristic is obtained by manufacturing the cathode surfaces from microscopically rough and/or finely divided carbon, possibly as an admixture with a semiconductor or insulator. The carbon may be provided on either an electrically conductive or an insulating substrate.</p> |
