<p>The motor vehicle steering wheel comprises a hub, to which a rim is joined by a number of bent spokes. The rim (2) has a steel core of elliptical cross-section, giving differing resistances to bending loads in two main directions. There are three spokes, the angle between two of them (3, 3') being less than 180 deg. but appreciably >= 120 deg. The third spoke (3") bisects the larger of the two angles between the first two. The spokes have a bend roughly half-way along, the axis of the spoke portion adjacent to the rim lying at between 55 and 65 deg. to the plane through the rim. The portion of the spoke adjacent to the hub is at between 16 and 26 deg. to this plane.</p> |
