The plastic crate has a bottom (1) and four side walls (2) whose upper ends are double-walled (7) so as to form a cross-section with J-shaped profile. The outside (14) of the side wall (2) is stepped inwards to give a reduced thickness (13) from a point (15) which is at a lower level than the lowest point (12) of the double-wall portion (7) to facilitate removal of the core (10) after injection moulding. The point (15) is pref. higher than half the distance between the point (12) and the crate bottom (1) or an outward flange (16) provided near the bottom. The point (15) may be in the central region of the side wall.
