The table has two legs (1) which are pivot mounted on the floor or on a foot (2). The legs (3) are in the form of toggle levers (9) and joined by a bar (20). At least one support which is rigid and as long as the height of the table in its lowered position, is fixed vertically to the underneath side of the table top. At least one of the toggle levers (9) has a bottom arm which extends into the support, and has a detachable notch (12) by which the arm (9) is tightly locked to the support. A weight equaliser spring (21) is situated between the table top (1) and the bar (20). The table top, in the lowered bench position, forms a bed, when placed against adjacent benches.
