A continuously operating crystallisation apparatus comprises a long tank of relatively deep cross-section, with a series of transverse separator plates in its lower region; a series of nozzles lead into the spaces formed between these plates. Pref. the crystalliser is divided into five major zones from inlet to outlet. In the first zone in which the crystallisation is completed, the transverse plates have an inclined upper edge and are heated. In the second zone, the transverse plates are sieves and have an inclined, heated upper edge. In the third zone, the sole transverse plate is inclined at the top edge and heated and is fitted with an overflow flange bridging across zone into intermediate space. In the fourth zone, the transverse plates have an inclined upper edge and are heated and have groups of perforations on the side where the edge is highest. In the fifth zone, the transverse plates have an inclined upper edge and are heated and have a gap at one side. Used for chemical crystallisation processes, or for processes in the foodstuffs industry such as crystallisation from syrup, concentrated juice etc.
|
