1515485 Separator with replaceable solids collector FILTRATOR AB 25 Feb 1977 [27 Feb 1976] 08132/77 Headings BID BIT and B2P Apparatus for separating solid particles from a mixture of a fluid, e.g. liquid and/or gas, the particles comprises a cylindrical separation chamber 1 which in its upper portion, is provided with an inlet opening 3 for feeding the mixture tangentially to the separation chamber and a suction opening 2 for connecting a vacuum source to the chamber and, in its lower portion, includes a drainage opening 8 and a replaceable collecting vessel 6, the chamber accommodating between the openings 3 and 8 a funnel-shaped member 5 leading into an upper inlet of the vessel 6 an outlet opening of which is in fluid tight connection with the drainage opening 8 of the chamber so that fluid may pass through the drainage opening whilst the solid particles are retained in the collecting vessel. A helical guide for the feed mixture is provided at 4. The collecting vessel 6 is mounted on a bottom plate 12 which can be moved vertically on guides 13 and locked by a pivotable rod 14 in its upper position. In this position, a rubber membrane 16 which covers the outlet opening of the vessel 6 is punctured by a wedge-shaped lip of a sleeve 15 and seals around the sleeve to provide the fluidtight connection between the outlet opening and the drainage opening 8. The apparatus may be used for the separation of air, cooling liquid, saliva and solid particles, e.g. amalgam, removed by drilling during dental treatment. The collecting vessel 6 may contain mineral oil which in operation lies above the liquid mixture in the vessel and constitutes a smell trap.
