FILTER FOR PIPETTES

A filter comprising an elongated hollow member constructed of porous filter material adapted for use in combination with a pipette to enable filtering of small volumes of liquids while concurrently measuring the volumes of liquid filtered. The filter may be thereafter discarded and the measured volume of liquid dispensed. The filter has an elongated cavity formed therein, said cavity having tapering side walls with the thinnest side walls being where the filter attaches to the pipette. This configuration not only allows rapid filtration under the small differential pressure obtained by mount aspiration but allows clogging to occur at the thinnest portion of said side walls. Such differential clogging permits continual removing of liquid by aspiration when the clogged portion becomes exposed to air after initial use.
