PURPOSE:To electrolyze alkali metal chloride by use of anion exchange membrane, by sticking anode, an anion exchange membrance, and cathode to one another so as to make the cell voltage lower, and alkali chloride concn., of caustic alkali lower. CONSTITUTION:In producing caustic alkali metal, e.g., caustic soda, from alkali metal chloride by use of anion exchange membrane, the alkali metal chloride is electrolyzed with the anion exchange resin membrane sticked to both the anode and the cathode. They are sticked to one another, either by fitting the anode surface with the anion exchange membrane, to which is sticked the cathode mechanically, or by sticking these three materials with springs. The electrolysis is effected with small distance between the anode and the cathode and without gas gap, consequently, the cell voltage is much lower than that of well-known ion exchange membrane electrolysis, and the alkali metal hydroxide running out of the electrolytic cell is low in alkai chloride concn. |
