PURPOSE:To provide a selectively permeable membrane made of flexible film- forming arom. polyamidoimidosulfonamide which membrane has superior mechanical strength, chemical stability, heat resistance, moisture resistance, etc. and shows good properties as a reverse osmosis membrane. CONSTITUTION:An arom. polyamidoimidosulfonamide is formed into a thin film product of tube or sheet shape to provide a selectively permeable membrane. The polymer has a repeating unit of the formula (where each of Ar1 and Ar2 is a divalent arom. hydrocarbon residue and 0<=x<=0.5), and it can be produced by polycondensing N-(4'-halosulfophenyl)-4-halocarbonylphthalimide with an arom. diamine or the diamine and an arom. discarboxylic acid halide in the presence of an acid acceptor. |
