PURPOSE:To prevent occurrence of buckling in slab by making the housing which mounts a caliber roll elevatable. CONSTITUTION:When a broad continuously cast slab 1 is broadwise reduced by a caliber roll 14, vertical loads P1 and P2 are detected by an embedded face pressure measuring device 15 in the flange part. The detecting signals are sent to a hydraulic unit, which in turn operates a hydraulic cylinder 12 to raise the caliber roll 14 integrally with an inner housing 11 in the case of P1>P2. When the loads become P1 P2, the operation of the hydraulic cylinder 12 stops. In the case of P1<P2, the hydraulic cylinder 12 is operated to lower the caliber roll 14 together with the inner housing 11 until they become P1=P2. Hence, this constitution leads to obviation of occurrence of buckling, better product quality, absence of crop losses and higher yield. |
