<p>A bar(a) immersed in the liq. or steel is fixed to an arm (b) mounted on a pivot on a support(c) fixed to the tundish. The sensor detecting the height of the melt in the tundish is a hydraulic system mounted between the support(c) and arm(b), and used with a pressure gauge. The pref. system uses a hydraulic cylinder with a piston rod pushed upwards against arm(b). The cylinder is fed with a pressurised hydraulic fluid, and the pressure is measured due to the wt. of bar(a) and arm(b) combined with the Archimedean thrust exerted by the liq. or molten steel, the pressure indicates the height of the liq. Used esp. to keep molten steel at a constant height in a tundish.</p> |
