NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formula I: (X is H, Cl, Br, or lower alkyl group; R is lower alkyl group). EXAMPLE:1,1-Bis( methylthio )-2-[ N-benzyl-o-( 2,6-dichloroanilino )-phenyl ]ethylene. USE:An intermediate for the synthesis of useful medicines having anti-inflammatory and analgesic actions. PROCESS:An aldehyde of formula II is reacted with a compound of formula II: (X<1> is Cl or Br) in the presence of an alkali metal hydride) e.g. NaH, to form a compound of formula V, which is then reacted with a formaldehyde dialkyl mercaptal S-oxide in an aprotic polar solvent, e.g. DMF, at 0-70 deg.C to give a compound of formula IV. The resulting compound is then reduced with 2 molar equivalents of TiCl3 or a metal salt containing it at -20-80 deg.C to afford the compound of formula I. |
